Mohamed Salah says he isn’t thinking about his future with Liverpool and is instead focused on enjoying the last year of his contract.

Salah is part of a trio of key players on expiring deals alongside centre-back Virgil van Dijk and right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, all of whom are free to enter into negotiations with clubs overseas as early as January as things stand.

While Salah remains happy at Liverpool, the Egyptian admits he wants to enjoy the “last year” of his contract before making a decision.

“I think with time, you get wiser,” he told Sky Sports. “Before the season I was like, ‘Okay, I have one year left, so let’s enjoy it. Don’t think about the contract now. Don’t think about anything’.

“I don’t want to think about next year. I don’t want to think about the future. Let’s enjoy the last year [of his contract] andthen we’ll see.

“Just take one day at a time, be grateful to be here and that’s it. “

Salah has significant interest from Saudi Arabia, as does Van Dijk, who also stressed his desire to keep his focus on the current season before thinking about the future.

Liverpool, however, will be keen to get answers from Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold as soon as possible, with all three incredibly valuable assets who are currently at risk of leaving for free at the end of the season.

Progress in contract talks with the trio last season was halted by the shock revelation of Jurgen Klopp’s departure. Liverpool then focused on finding a new manager and sporting hierarchy to end the season.

The summer transfer window has presented yet another distraction but, with the deadline approaching on Friday, Liverpool will soon be able to give their undivided attention to contract talks with Salah, Van Dijk and Alexander-Arnold.
