Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag had a slightly uncomfortable exchange with a journalist in his post-match press conference yesterday after watching his side comfortably beaten 3-0 at home by rivals Liverpool.

Two first half goals from Luis Diaz and one in the second half from Mohamed Salah gave Arne Slot’s side an impressive one-sided victory at Old Trafford, and this will inevitably lead to more big question marks over Ten Hag’s performance as Man Utd manager.

The Dutch tactician is in his third season as Red Devils boss, and he doesn’t appear to have made much progress with the team at all, despite plenty of money being invested into changing much of the playing squad, as well as some of his coaching staff this summer.

When asked about his performance as manager after yesterday’s game, Ten Hag seemed to have little in the way of a proper response, simply saying he felt sorry for the journalist quizzing him and pointing out all the things his players are bad at.

“What do you mean? Maybe you can explain to me with the mistakes that we make regular,” Ten Hag said, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News.

The journalist replied: “Constantly turning the ball over in your own half, playing the ball out from the back, getting mugged, chances coming on the back of it, counter-attacks when you’re outnumbered, giving up endless chances in your own stadium against your biggest rivals. With the greatest of respect, Erik, we’ve seen that for so long now.”

“I don’t think otherwise you wouldn’t win trophies as we did against big opponents. So I’m sorry for you, I have another vision,” Ten Hag responded. “I think we won after City the most trophies in English football, so I’m sorry for you.”

United fans surely won’t be at all convinced by this from their manager, who has clearly not lived up to expectations or been able to stamp down his philosophy in the same way that Slot has already done in a much shorter time at Liverpool.
